How to Brew Coffee --
a Quick Look
|
In order to
brew coffee with the best possible taste, you need to do a detailed brew
analysis. But to get you started right away, here are three
things you can do to improve your coffee:
-
Use enough coffee.
The correct proportion to start with is 3.8 oz of ground coffee to 64 oz (1/2 gallon) of
water. If you're using less than 3 oz, don't
bother with specialty coffee. At home, use 2 level tablespoons per
6 oz cup. For the metrically inclined, the proportions are 56
grams per liter, or about 8 - 9 grams per 150 ml cup.
-
Get the water hot
enough. It should be 200 F ±5 F.
Adjust your
grinder. If it's producing chunks of coffee on the
"Drip" setting, you're leaving the flavor in the brew
basket. Don't turn it to powder, but err on the side of too
fine rather than too coarse.
